Perform Or Go, Jonathan Tells Ministers
President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday read the riot act to Ministers, with a marching orders that they either sit up and produce results as promised Nigerians during his 2011 election campaign or resign their positions.
There had been speculation about a possible cabinet shake-up this
January, following what many consider the president’s worries about the
level of performance of government and the impatience of Nigerians with
their expectations from the current administration.
A dependable source at yesterday’s Federal Executive Council (FEC)
meeting told NEWSMEN that Jonathan was quite stern with the warning he
gave the ministers.
According to the source, “the president drew the attention of his
cabinet members to the negative public perception of the government.
“He told them that although most of the criticisms against the
administration were being orchestrated by the opposition for some
selfish reasons, the ministers must keep tab with his transformation
agenda to ensure that most of the things said against the administration
are proved wrong at the end of the day.”
The Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku, while briefing State
House correspondents after the first FEC meeting in 2013 presided by the
president, said Jonathan, confirmed the report.
Maku said, “Mr President gave us a marching order to work harder,
faster and deliver results. He said we must all buckle up and make sure
all our agencies deliver results.”
